Jonathan Tay, MD, Radiation Oncology Associates

After receiving his M.D. degree at Michigan State University in 1991, Dr. Tay completed his first year residency in internal medicine at Naval Hospital Oakland, Calif. As a Health Profession Scholarship Program participant, Dr. Tay spent time with the U.S. Navy Submarine Fleet as an undersea and diving medical officer, before entering and completing his residency in Radiation Oncology at Saint Mary's Integrated Hospitals Program in San Francisco. Soon thereafter he became board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology.

A physician in private practice since 1998, Dr. Tay's specialties include prostate seed implantation, high-dose-rate and low-dose-rate intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy, endovascular brachytherapy, 3-D conformal radiotherapy, intensity modulated radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery.

In 2004, Dr. Tay became Chair of the Cancer Committee at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center and in 2005 took on the role of Medical Director for the newly formed Radiation Oncology Department. Among his accomplishments as Medical Director are the establishment of cancer clinical trials, implementation of intensity modulated radiation therapy, high-dose-rate brachytherapy, and stereotactic cranial and body radiosurgery with CyberKnife technology.

Dr. Tay teamed up with neurosurgeon Dr. Hilari Fleming in 2010 to form the Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center. The center brings essential resources together to provide expedited treatment to patients diagnosed with brain tumors through the use of the cutting-edge CyberKnife technology.

Dr. Tay is a diplomat with the National Board of Medical Examiners and is certified by the American Board of Radiology. He holds memberships with the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American College of Radiation Oncology, American College of Radiology, American Brachytherapy Society, Nevada Oncology Society and the Washoe County Medical Society.
