Your Neurosurgeon

Hilari Fleming, MD, Ph.D., Sierra Neurosurgery Group

Dr. Fleming graduated with her medical degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. In addition to her medical degree, Dr. Fleming holds a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she was an National Institute of Health (NIH) predoctoral fellow. She has been a private practice neurosurgeon at Sierra Neurosurgery Group
since 1991.

Dr. Fleming is one of just a handful of female neurosurgeons in the West. She specializes in the treatment of tumors that impact the brain, particularly pituitary tumors. One of just three neurosurgeons in northern Nevada, Dr. Fleming is trained to treat brain tumors with the non-invasive CyberKnife radiosurgery system. She is also one of the only surgeons in the region experienced with the use of vagal nerve stimulation to treat patients with seizures.

In 2010, Dr. Fleming collaborated with radiation oncologist Dr. Jonathan Tay and Saint Mary's Center for Cancer to form Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center. She is thrilled with the potential of this new center to provide expedited treatment to patients diagnosed with brain tumors through the use of the cutting-edge CyberKnife technology.

Dr. Fleming is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the National Board of Medical examiners. She is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and its joint section on Tumors and Trauma, as well as the Nevada State Medical Association and Washoe County Medical Society. She is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
