We have streamlined and simplified the process for physicians to refer their patients diagnosed with a brain tumor. Following is the step-by-step process for getting your patient the most efficient and effective treatment for their brain tumor:
- Patient receives brain tumor diagnosis.
- Referring physician's office contacts Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center at the Center for Cancer with their referral in one of two ways: by phone at 775-770-7410, or by fax at 775-770-6349.
- Referral is reviewed by a doctor on the Brain Tumor Center team.
- Upon review, CyberKnife candidates are referred to the Brain Tumor Center for treatment; patients who are not candidates for CyberKnife are referred to Sierra Neurosurgery Group for treatment. Sierra Neurosurgery Group will contact referring physician's office for appointment scheduling.
- If patient is a CyberKnife candidate, referring physician must get three-part insurance authorization prior to scheduling an appointment with Dr. Tay, Dr. Fleming and Saint Mary's facility.
- Upon authorization, Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center sets a patient appointment – appointments are on Wednesday mornings – and contacts both patient and referring physician office with appointment date.
- Referring physician office submits all relevant patient information and records to Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center.
- Patient has option of getting new patient paperwork via PDF on this Web site or by mail.
- Patient meets with Brain Tumor Center team on scheduled appointment date expediting care and treatment planning.
- Brain Tumor Center shares treatment plan with referring physician's office via transcription and phone call if necessitated.
