Treatment Process

Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center was created to provide patients with the care and support they need after a brain tumor diagnosis. Following is the step-by-step process for getting the most efficient and effective treatment:

  1. Physician diagnoses patient with a brain tumor.
  2. Physician's office contacts Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center to refer patient for care.
  3. Case is reviewed by a doctor on the Brain Tumor Center team.
  4. A Brain Tumor Center physician determines if the patient is a candidate for CyberKnife treatment. If not, the patient will be referred to Sierra Neurosurgery Group for treatment. Sierra Neurosurgery Group will contact patient for appointment scheduling.
  5. If the patient is a candidate for CyberKnife treatment, the referring physician's office will get the required insurance authorizations for treatment at Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center.
  6. Upon approval, Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center will contact the patient to schedule an appointment — appointments are on Wednesday mornings.
  7. Patient will receive new patient paperwork to fill out prior to first appointment.
  8. Patient meets with Brain Tumor Center team to plan treatment.
  9. The Brain Tumor Center team keeps the primary physician apprised of treatment plan.
